Abstract
A study was conducted in Rajshahi district to reveal the present status of the use of different chemicals in aquaculture ponds. A total of 50 fishponds (44 carp polyculture and 6 Thai pangas monoculture ponds) were surveyed for a period of nine months from March to November 2010. A wide range of chemicals were found to be used in these ponds. They were used as fish poisons, lime, fertilizers, vitamins, antibiotics and medicines. Chemicals were also used in treating fish seed, increasing oxygen supply and reducing toxic gasses. This paper describes various chemicals used in fish culture ponds with application rates and methods.
